    He,

I'm a dutch student, and i'm coming to Wollongong for 5 months starting in May.
Is it possible to join the university soccerclub? I'm playing soccer on a pretty good level in Holland.
I would really like to join! Is there also a training possibility?
    Thanks!

Good to see Ressies getting in amogst it, and el presidente on the score sheet to boot. Hopefully I'll get along to watch a few more games this season, but my priority will be making sure Figtree FC don't get whitewashed by Uni boys again.

Double Header Weekend Sat 3rd & Sunday 4th May

Round #7 - Uni Vs Corrimal, Sat 3/5 @ Memorial Park, Corrimal

FIRST GRADE: UNI 7 (Dan B 2, Matt B 2, Bosco, Rob, Rusty ) -- Corrimal 1 (og)

Uni completely dominated the struggling Corrimal team despite conceding an own goal in the first minutes of the game. This was immediately cancelled out with Bosco making it 1-1 after five minutes. To their credit Corrimal pushed the Uni boys and the game was competitive in the first half hour before a Rusty screamer from the edge of the box and a calm finish from Rob made it 3 -- 1.  Dan B added his first for the match to have Uni well in control at 4 -- 1 by HT. While Uni's dominance in the second half almost made Barass a victim of mind boggling boredom such was his lack of involvement in the match (a dangerous predicament for a team with a GK of his qualities), carelessness in front of goal kept the scoreline static until the late period of the half. Abdul showing his abundant speed and skill which caused the hapless Corrimal defenders all sorts of problems during the afternoon, finally set up Matt B for his first goal. Dan B added his second and Matt then finished the scoring following good lead up work from Pete who showed sound attacking as well as his usual defensive sense. It is anticipated that next week's home match against a rampant Berkeley in a replay of last year's GF will be a much more demanding encounter for the Uni team as they attempt to push their way up the league ladder.

RESERVE GRADE: UNI 1 (Flash) -- Corrimal 0.

Coach Wayne was generally satisified with a solid performance from the ressies in which they showed composure on the ball and managed to keep their shape well with a good all round effort involving an appreciation of the importance of using width in attack. In a match where neither side had many scoring chances, the outcome was decided by a Flash headed goal from a corner in the second half and a goal line clearance from Pauli to keep it that way. Frankie's positive contribution over the eighty minutes and the manner in which Dave and Christian displayed good input in carrying out the roles given to them were notable features of the team's effort.

YOUTH GRADE: UNI 4 (Gary 2, Richmond, Zead) -- Corrimal 2.

At last a win for the YG boys. Coach bosco was happy with the improved showing of the side over previous weeks as the team got off to a positive start thanks to early goals by Richmond and Gary before defensive indecision in the box let in the Corrimal striker for a gift goal. To their credit the players kept their heads up and continued to apply pressure in the attacking third. Gary scored from the penalty spot and then Zead fiinished off nicely in cleaning up the scraps to make it 4 - 1 by HT. The team worked hard in the second term without adding to their score and Corrimal were able to score again to make the result more respectable for them. Richmond's ability to hold up the ball and lay off penetrating passes for support players was again in evidence. In this he was ably supported by Gary and Rowan in applying pressure to the opposition defence.

UNI V HIGHLANDS --  round 5 at Highlands  Renwick Oval.

FIRST GRADE:  Uni 2 (Rob, Dan)   --  Highlands FC 1.

The Uni boys certainly sank the golden slipper into a confident Highlands outfit on their own turf. Up against a side which had scored 13 times in their opening four games and coming off a seven goal demolition in their previous encounter, a reconstructed first grade provided all the suspense, drama and upset to be found on any day at any racetrack in the nation. The boys got out of the gates quickly and in no time at all were out in front thanks to a neat piece of finishing by Rob to open his account for the season. With the punters suspecting an upset, it was game on as the home favourites applied pressure against a resolute Uni defense. 1 -0 it was at half time and trainer Mick was a nervous man as he sought to provide advice to his charges for a nail-biting second half. And so it proved to be with a fighting and determined resistance in which Pete and Barass almost together combined to keep the favourites at bay, ably supported by Tom, Tim and Kameron and the refusal of the whole team to concede. Just as the match was entering the long home straight Bolty latched on to a long clearance and intelligently played in Dan to slot his fourth goal for the season. Even at 2 - 0 the pressure continued to be applied and only minutes from the finishing line Highlands managed to convert one of their many scoring chances. However the boys rode out the encounter to win by a short half head in a performance which was a testament to team spirit and self belief. Not pretty to watch and the bookies are still shaking their heads.

RESERVE GRADE: Uni 0  ---  Highlands  FC 3.

The ressies are still a work in progress and despite this scoreline they are building on the formation being established by coach Wayne over the last few weeks. While the principles of defensive structure are emerging, there are still problems in technique and in the ability to link and get forward in attack. There is a need to make more options for the player on the ball and to reduce unforced errors which are hurting the team at key parts of the match. In this game poor tracking and closing down by the midfield allowed a sharp shooting Highlands to score twice in a five minute period at a stage in the first half when Uni were well into the game. Despite  conceding an early goal in the second half to a well taken shot, the players did not panic and played passing football to feet, keeping possession and making good use of width. Keep up this approach and chances will come. Special mention for the efforts of Murray ( what does this guy not do in this club!), Evan and Flash for their consistency and contribution to the team's effort.

YOUTH GRADE: Uni 1 (og) --- Highlands FC 6.

In a first half in which Uni were competitive for extended periods the boys went into the break down by a single goal. In the second half they conceded a goal and the game almost from the whistle and totally lost momentum. The coaches agree there is talent in the squad and they urgently need a good result to get them on track. So keep up the effort at training and eventually it will happen on the park. Scotty and Jake were notable for sticking at the task when things were not going well and showing strong resilience for the full eighty minutes.
