Met up with Menke and Bourbo on Monday for a 4 day tour of Amsterdam. Here is the checklist of what we got up to in no particular order:

Heineken Brewery

Anne Frank's house

Van Gogh Museum

Live sex show

Red light district shananigans

Hired bikes and rode around the city

Checked out some markets

The trip started well. We got on the flight and this chick asked if she could sit next to Menke and I, started chatting and she's 1/2 dutch, 1/2 english and lives in Gronigen which is 2 hrs north of Amsterdam. After the flight we all had a coffee at the airport and she invited us all up to Gronigen to "go out with her and her friends!" That was meant to be Thursday. I was seriously thinking of changing my flight to arrive back in London on Friday rather than the one I had booked for Thursday but it would've been too much of a mission. I'm sure Menke and Bourbo will definitely be going there. They're still in Holland making arrangements to buy a kombi for their trip around Europe.

At the hostel we met 2 Canadian girls so for the 3 days we were there they were our tour and drinking buddies... It was cool cause you'd get up hung-over and they had planned out our day for us!

The live sex show was good. Although one of the strippers was terrible! She couldn't dance or anything! I was thinking "What is she doing here in such a famous strip club?" then she pulled out a cigar and started smoking it. Not with her mouth. So that explained her "talent"... All I could think was that if she does that every night she's gonna get cancer. And it'll be an effort to try and explain how she got that type of cancer in that particular place to her doctor...

The girls in the windows are at first a little confronting. You're looking at them as you walk past and they wink at you and gesture you to come in. As a natural reaction you turn away like when you get busted perving on a girl but then you get over that pretty quickly and you find yourself having done 10 laps of the whole district and have an exact idea of your top 3...

I mean you get everything from 150kg black women that could crush you like a paper cup, to some of the hottest girls you will ever see. - Paolo

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-04-10T01:24:15Z</dcterms:modified>

A FISH'S TALE - PART 2

All is going really well here, after Easter I'm moving to a place in Stratford which is east of the city but pretty central. The suburb is very much Little-Kabul as pretty much everyone who lives there is from the Middle-East. Possibly not a place to walk through at night, but it'll be home for 7 weeks for me...

Every 3rd shop is a kebab or fried chicken shop and every 5th shop is an off-licence bottle-o! The tube station is only 5 mins walk away.

I'm going to be living with a slovakian woman in her 30s who I think owns the place and a canadian girl. I haven't met the canadian but the land-lady seems pretty laid back. The best part is that at the end of my street there are 2 grass soccer fields and a full field synthetic soccer field! When I walked past it to check out the place last night there were people playing so I'll get to join in when I move there. Sure I'll have to learn arabic, but how hard can that be!

I've caught up with a couple of people I went to school with too which was fun, have hung out with them... Bourbo and Menke got here the other day so we spent their first day here getting acquainted with the many pubs London has to offer...

On Monday we'll all be going to Amsterdam as Menke has relos there, so free accommodation. I'll be back in London on Thursday and the others will be buying a van and travelling though Europe. My parents arrive Friday which is when I'll start my 3 weeks' travel with them to Italy, France and Ireland.

Random thought 2: I was walking down the bank of the Thames the other day and every park bench has got a plaque "Dedicated to the loving memory of ......" That's a bit weird, a lot of people out here seem to be dying on park benches... Are park bench related fatalities a problem anywhere else in the world?

I'm avoiding park benches like the plague. Who knows, maybe that's what they give you!

Then I thought about it, "100% of people who sit on park benches will die" but "100% of people who don't sit on park benches will die too".

As I pondered that thought and all its implications for a little while I found myself not walking anymore but sitting... You can guess where... DAMN!!! I'm doomed... - Paolo

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-04-03T21:31:07Z</dcterms:modified>

A FISH'S TALE - PART 1

Well welcome to my first update from London...

I went out to the local last night in Surbiton which is where I'm staying for the next couple of weeks. It's the quintessential suburbia of London if there is such a thing... I just went out for dinner and a couple of pints (out here I'm drinking Foster's, and it's good! Go figure...) Ended up staying out until about 11pm. Surbiton's not the greatest for going out in... Picture yourself going out in Kiama... On a Tuesday. It's not quite that bad but more older people out, nevertheless I did find some people to play with. 2 Jamaican dudes and 4 well, slappers would be the best way to describe them. Good fun!

The guy I'm living with is an Aussie too but all he does is work, come home, watch TV and go to bed... He could be doing that in Dapto! I think I've done more in my first 5 days here than he has done in 4 months of being here... I guess it's not for me to judge... Poof! Hehehe... He goes to the video shop, hires movies, rips them onto his PC and then doesn't watch them! Who does that???

The weather's great as you can imagine. I think today was the first day since I've been here that the temperature has hit double figures. I've worn 2 things that I'd never thought I'd ever wear... Gloves (possibly my best purchase yet!) and a chesty bond under a business shirt, now that's sexy the way you can see it through the white shirt... It's cold, I had to wear it!

Anyway, yesterday I went to a recruitment agency, did the old tests (typing, spelling, Microsoft products etc...) It went ok.

I was at the supermarket today and had a random thought... Why is it that eggs are never in the fridge at the supermarket but when you take them home the first thing everyone does is stick them in the fridge? Is it cause there's a special egg holder in every fridge? And by the same token, if every fridge had a special spot for your umbrella, would you put your umbrella in the fridge? Hmmm... The mysteries of the world. - Paolo

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-04-03T21:31:26Z</dcterms:modified>
